Mel is a Blue-fronted Amazon. He is my little buddy and will be going to education programs. (Click for larger picture)
Cherry Cherry is a Cherry-headed Conure. She did come with another name (something like Wilbur), but it was one of those names that you can’t remember unless you walk around with a post-it stuck to the front of your shirt. So, we re-named her. That isn’t something we normally do.

Cosmo is a White-eyed Conure. Cosmo is about 9 years old. He was bought by his first owner from a petshop and kept until he flew away. He was wild for about 2 years until he was recaptured (by the same owner). His second owner simply ran out of time to spend with him. Cosmo is madly in love with Buddy, but she pays no attention to him whatsoever. (May 5, 2000)

See this gorgeous “come hither” look? It actually means “Come a little closer so I can suck your blood”. Belle is a blue-streaked lory and a gorgeous one. Luckily, she adores Larry. Me? I’m her next meal if I’m not careful! (click for larger picture) Another picture

Cookie ~ Cookie is a 6-year-old normal gray cockatiel. He whistles the Andy Griffith Song, and says “Mama’s good little cookie”. Cookie was pretty lonely in his previous home, but since we decorate in “contemporary bird” here, he blends right in —and has plenty of company.

Miami - Miami is a Military Macaw youngster from the Sonoma Valley. He is also the product of a divorce. He is snuggly and cuddly and is really a wonderful bird (even if you can’t touch his feet —don’t ask). We subsequently got about 5 more phone calls in the following months for Miliary Macaws. I think we know when their breeding season is now.

The “Twins” ~ They do actually have names... Raymond & Sparky. They don’t even look the same, but their shared nickname has stuck. After several batches of eggs from Mickey & Minnie that we took for granted would not hatch (Sunny & Kizzy’s have never hatched) —they hatched. We ended up raising these little tykes, although not without some stress.

Baby ~ As the story goes, Baby was taken to the San Francisco Humane Society when she was ejected from her wild nest. Although I have a few doubts about that story, she is just the most delightful bird. Perhaps an early nest injury caused her neck to be cocked off, but lots of exercise is helping out with that. She is 100% mobile. She will eat just anything, and in the “Life at Coventry” section you can see that she will certainly do her business with a grilled cheese sandwich. She is a Canary-winged Parakeet (and yes... it took us a week to finally figure that out.)

Hannah Belle ~ I had fallen in love with Hannah from the first minute I set eyes on her —a few years ago. She gives serious good kisses although she does have an annoying habit of uncontrollably biting fingers if they are near her. (regardless of whether they are bringing treats or not.) Hannah is a “harlequin” —a blue & gold/greenwing hybrid. She has taught half the household to raise their wings up and “be pretty”.

Scarlet ~ Scarlet is a refugee from Magic Mountain. She is a Cherry-headed Conure. We were transporting her for transfer to the Oasis Sanctuary, but when we went to pick her up, we realized she just wasn’t at that point. She is old enough to have her exact preferences, and that is just the way life is. We are here to serve.

Rocky is 3-year-old Blue & Gold macaw who was the product of a divorce. Although he cried a lot when he first got here, he hardly ever makes the crying sounds anymore. One of his favorite sayings is “Hey Baby! Hubba-hubba!” to everyone’s delight. (The wimen here aren’t proud... we’ll take it where we can get it.) See pictures of Rocky. (Apr 25, 1999)

Peaches is a Molluccan Cockatoo who spent 8 years in a tiny, filthy cage before being rescued from the petstore. To add insult to injury, she was chased into her cage regularly with a broom —which if you know Peaches, is completely unnecessary. Her feathers are coming in beautifully, and she is becoming a lot more outgoing. She is the loudest bird in our house. (And don’t forget that if you’re thinking about buying one.) See pictures of peaches. (Mar 13, 1999)

Azure Blue. Two budgies and a Cockatoo get a new lease on life. There has been a lot of animosity of late between some rescue people. This is one rescue that took three groups. We are *all* working for the same effort. Guess who pays the price when we can’t agree and squabble amongst ourselves? Read about Azure Blue and the Rescue of 3. (Mar 7, 1999)

Buddy is a Severe Macaw (aka Chestnut-fronted Macaw). She sports the flashy “off the shoulders” look while still maintaining her sweet disposition. With luck, we can improve on her fashion statement and go for the popular and demure "covered up" look. Click her picture for candid photos. (Feb 26, 1999)

Sunny & Kizzy are Lutino Peach-faced lovebirds. Although they had a rocky start, they have gained a lot of weight (and feathers) and are doing just great. The full spectrum lighting seems to be doing wonders as well. (Jan 24, 1999)

Micky & Minnie ~ (Jan 24, 1999) These two Dutch Blue Peach-faced Lovebirds were rescued from a pet store where they were living in filth. Unfortunately, it saves these two birds but encourages the petstore to simply buy more and keep them in filth. It’s a vicious circle that needs to be stopped somehow.

Pita is a little Peach-faced Lovebird who came to us on 1/17/99. I won't even pretend to know what all of their color mutations are, or what they are called. Her owners got rid of her because she was nippy and bitey, but a day and a half of firm, gentle handling and “ladders”, and she is doing just great with only a few slip-ups. (Pita layed eggs and so much for any modicum of tameness!)

Morgan is a 6-year-old Lesser Sulfer Crested cockatoo. Another cockatoo in her family’s household was having problems which required more time from his owners, and fearing that Morgan would revert to some previous behavioral challenges, they found her a new home. She is settling in nicely, and enjoys helping out with crafts. (Click her picture to see more.)

Wickett is a 3-year-old Meyer’s Parrot. She came to us on December 3 from Southern California where she had been displaying phobic behavior which got progressively worse, prompting her owners to find a new home where she might be happier. (Click her picture to see more.)

George & Gracie are a pair of greenwing macaws (Retired breeders.) They came to us from Arizona on November 2, 1998.

Tootie is a 2-year-old Sunday (Sun/Jenday) Conure hybrid, and Sam is a Jendaya. They are inseperable. Tootie was adopted by us when her owners thought she was too loud. Sam’s Mom & Dad were having a human baby, so he came here as well. Both of these little birds are completely devoted to Larry... and I’m the maid. These two are an absolute joy.

Jack is an Umbrella Cockatoo who was found and then transfered to another home where he did not fit in and eventually became labeled as a “killer”. He has never given any indication of harming a soul here (except his own feather-plucking habit.) He loves nothing more than to sit and be cuddled. (click on the picture for more.)

Danny is the old grump... er... a 10-year old Yellow-naped Amazon. Danny’s owners cared very much for him, but a bird didn't mesh comfortably with their lifestyle. When Danny started exhibiting signs of nervousness and discontentment, he came to us. He’s a pure delight (albeit an old grump!) Danny has a wonderful sponsor in Wisconsin by the way!

Kes is not a rescue, but is my own beloved Yellow-backed Chattering Lory, purchased when she was 3 months old. She is very much a member of the Coventry Flock. (If only to pester them and make them deaf.) Recent DNA tests concluded that my little princess is actually a little prince, but I can’t bring myself to call her “little man” :)

Lou is an 11-year old Umbrella cockatoo. His owner was unable to keep him after he developed severe behavioral problems following ~big life changes~. He is currently a loving, outgoing bird. He is great at accepting changes and interruptions to his routine, and loves to travel and meet people.
