Dear Prospective Parrot Parent,

Thank you for considering adopting a companion bird from Coventry. There is a great need for responsible and loving people to provide homes for the growing number of unwanted parrots in captivity.

Currently (as of 9/24/03), none of our birds are ready for adoption. A few are in the works --but the bulk are here for sanctuary, or education. As a rule, we don't adopt out macaws except in extraordinary circumstances --a lot more extraordinary than anything that could be put on an application. And, none of our cockatoos will ever be adopted out. Lou is our love and a favorite educational ambassador and Morgan was accepted as a sanctuary bird, and is Larry's beloved. We do not accept Cockatoos, so we don't have any aside from the two mentioned above.

We don't adopt out birds for summer projects, period.

We don't "fill" empty aviaries. You just don't realize how dumb that sounds when you call or email (there's a lot of you.) You didn't even get a response. I'm sorry, but I can't intelligently respond to that request. Someday, I'll have someone to answer the phones that can be calm and make friends (and educate) instead of burning bridges.

One more... (while I'm burning bridges) For all of you "new rescues" who call/email and want all of our excess birds... you're worse than the aviary people. You didn't get a response either. I am not diplomatic and actually am often tongue tied at what people will request. Fact is, you make friends and get your name out there and you'll think REALLY hard before you offer to take in any birds at all.

Thank you all for your understanding and ongoing support.
