ABOUT MY SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS
I don't like to call what I do a "lecture"; I don't lecture; I talk, share my experiences et cetera. My presentation is approximately one hour long (though it can vary) on various types of handicaps, therapy methods, changes that can be made to a bird's living environment to compensate for any "problems." In addition, I have a short slide show (10 - 15 minutes) introducing my unique birds.

Thank you for your interest in my presentation. I do not have a speaking fee. I only request that my travel expenses (rental car or airfare, if over 100 miles from home, hotel, gas & tolls) be paid. If I travel by car, I usually bring 4 - 6 birds. If I fly, I would only be able to bring one bird.

The one special request I do ask of clubs is that at the meeting I am to speak at be "birdless" except for the birds I bring. I realize that many clubs allow and encourage members to bring their birds with them, and I appreciate my request being honored.

In addition to my standard format speaking approach I am now offering "mini talks" to be presented between speakers, during breaks, lunch, et cetera. All attendees are given hand-outs and programs run about 1/2 hour:

  1. Purchasing a Bird: Your first or tenth bird. What kind of bird is right for you, what to look for in a breeder/seller, etc.
  2. Death of a Bird/Pet: Understanding that it's O.K. to be sad when a pet dies. Why others may not understand your loss; should you get another?
  3. Finding an Avian Vet: What to look for in a good avian vet; what equipment should the hospital have, asking other bird owners who they use, AND should you trust them???
  4. Traveling with Your Bird: Do's & Don'ts, hotels, airline accommodations, traveling via car, et cetera. What if your bird becomes ill when you travel?
  5. Photographing Your Bird: For fun and.... maybe even profit! How-to's and where to offer photos for sale.
  6. Totally for Fun - A Bird ID Game: How well do you know which bird is which? Come play the bird game & find out!
Please feel free to call for additional info!

Thank you,
Doreen Gluck
