Read BEFORE You Buy or Adopt a Bird!

Welcome to the online source for exotic bird rescue! Information is provided for both the public and the professional exotic bird rescuer. Much of this information is also useful to multiple-bird families. Many links are provided to sites of interest relating to the field and about exotic birds in general.

Volunteer Needed!

(06/20/2008)

I am no longer listing rescues.

I get requests constantly from people wanting their rescue put up, and then their email bounces two months later. I don't have the time for the monthly care the listing requires. Additionally, I don't want to contribute to the endangerment of birds by referring them to "overnighters". If someone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

This site has been online for a decade, but hasn't been updated in quite some time. It's an important resource for bird and other animal owners. We run our own bird rescue, and are simply out of time to attempt keeping the rescue organizations up-to-date, and keep up on the latest books.

At this point, I'm shutting down the Bird Rescue Organization section. Not only is it impossible to keep up with who's who, the fact is that bird "rescues" come and go just as fast as bird owners. You get one bird, then you get two, and before you realize it, you can't even enjoy your own birds as the wonderful companions that made us want to rescue them in the first place.

The administration of a bird rescue takes more time than the bird care --and could keep 3 people busy full time. I could sit here all day answering emails, talking on the phone, picking up birds, accepting birds, and still wouldn't have time to interview people as possible homes for the birds that need them, or do anything to raise much-needed funds.

This is a hard fact. We can't take in any more birds, but are committed to the ones we already have. I can only hope that the other shelters no longer answering their emails are doing the same --rather than returning their rescued birds back into the system they came from.

So, VOLUNTEER NEEDED! This page needs to be updated on a regular basis. Google News helps keep up on current events very easily. Book reviews are needed --I haven't had time to read a new book in years. The links to the legislature and animal cruelty jobs need to be kept up to date. We need a way of connecting people with shelters who can actually help them.

I ask only that you know HTML reasonably well... I have the templates for these pages set up pretty nicely, and if they're touched by FrontPage or other WYSIWYG editor, I might have a coronary. Please email me at coventry.

Any money earned via associate memberships from this site will be split 50/50 with the person who helps out, or the organization of their choice.
